Prince Edward Island extends more invitations to foreign nationals to apply for provincial nomination

On 17 July, the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) issued invitations to foreign nationals to apply for provincial nomination.

Candidates were invited based on their ability to beneficially impact the Prince Edward Island economy by working in priority sectors and in-demand occupations.

Immigration results—17 July

In its most recent immigration draw, the PEI PNP issued 39 invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates.

To be eligible under this draw, candidates must

Hold a permanent, full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an employer in PEI in an in-demand position;
Have at least one year of full-time work experience that is directly related to the job being offered by the PEI employer;
Be between the ages of 18 and 59;
Have completed at least a high school education (secondary school diploma);
Submit valid language test results, from within the last two years, taken with an approved testing organization, showing a language proficiency equivalent to a CLB/NCLC level 4; and
Have adequate financial means to cover all immigration-related costs (including travel) for themselves and accompanying family members to settle in PEI.

Out-of-Canada candidates were also considered for this draw, provided that their employer received proper authorization from the PEI Office of Immigration prior to issuing a job offer.

The following occupations have been designated “in-demand” by the PEI PNP. They are presented with their associated National Occupation Classification (NOC) code:

Job Title NOC Code
Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates 33102
Transport truck drivers 73300
Construction trades helpers and labourers 75110
Light duty cleaners 65310
Other labourers in processing, manufacturing and utilities 95109
Material handlers 75101
Process control and machine operators – food and beverage processing 94140
Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers and related workers 94141

Which candidates will the PEI PNP invite this year?

Provincial immigration in Canada this year has become far more selective, in the face of reduced nomination allocations issued to provincial immigration authorities by the country’s federal government.

As a result, the PEI PNP has been impacted and has chosen to narrow the scope of the invitations it will issue this year.

On its website, the PEI PNP advises that the PEI Office of Immigration is currently focusing on selecting and prioritizing skilled workers in high-demand sectors, including health care, trades, childcare, and other critical industries experiencing labour shortages.

Individuals employed in the non-priority sectors (such as the sales and service sector) may not be invited to apply at this time.

Apart from this, candidates may meet the province’s economic and labour market needs based on one or more of the following attributes:

Language proficiency in English or French;
Education, including the level, field of study, and location where it was completed;
Occupational skill level and relevant work experience; and
Additional factors related to employment prospects, which may include (but are not limited to) having a job offer in PEI and/or prior Canadian work experience.
